On October 20th, the Yemen American Benevolent Association held its 49th annual dinner and scholarship presentation at Bint Jibail Cultural Center in Dearborn. The emcee for the evening was 3D Consulting & Communications President Siham Awada Jaafar. It was a successful event with a strong showing of dignitaries and community supporters.
The event began with invocation by Imam Hamood Afif and National Anthem was sung by Salina Intermediate student, Sabreen Musleh who did a great job. Presidents remarks was given by YABA president Mohsin Hubaishi, YABA remarks given by Amar Almaklani who discussed YABA’s commitment to the community as well as plans to build a new community center in south Dearborn.
There were also remarks by US Congressman Debbie Dingell (introduced by Ali Baleed), Kevin Hirt representing Senator Gary Peters, Terry Campbell representing Senator Debbie Stabenow, and Dearborn Mayor Jack O’Reilly as well as remarks by Dr.
Fouad Turfah for Dearborn Fresh, Henry Ford College president, Russell Kavalhuna, and Dearborn superintendent Glenn Maleyko. Many other elected officials, candidates and community leaders were in attendance. A big thank you to AK Steel, DTE Energy, Dearborn Fresh, Superior Buick and all the sponsors that helped make the evening possible.
Congratulations to the awardees Linda Hallick, Sara Gleicher, Anisa Sahoubah, Amar Almaklani, Ali Nasser, and Abdulla Shariff.
Also a big congratulations to the 20 scholarship recipients. Students remarks was given by Khalid Saeed. Thank you to the YABA board and all the volunteers for their commitment and hard work to help make this a successful night.
