WASHINGTON (Reuters)

The US military announced on Friday that it carried out air strikes on November 20 in the Yemeni province of Al-Bayda, killing five members of the al-Qaeda branch there, including Mujahid al-Adani, who he described as one of the organization’s leaders.

“Al-Adani has considerable influence in AQAP, as well as his close ties with other senior leaders in the organization,” the US Central Command said in a statement.

Five suspected al-Qaeda members were also killed in an air strike by an unmanned US drone in November, witnesses said in the southern province of Shabwa.

A local source said the dead, whose bodies were raided, were targeted in al-Haidah area, southwest of Shabwa, adding that the militants did not belong to the area.

The source also reported light explosions inside the target vehicle, suggesting that they contained weapons and ammunition.

أعلن الجيش الأميركي، الجمعة، أنه نفذ ضربات جوية في 20 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر في محافظة #البيضاء اليمنية أسفرت عن مقتل خمسة عناصر من فرع تنظيم القاعدة هناك، بينهم مجاهد العدني الذي وصفه بأنه أحد قادة التنظيم.

وقالت القيادة الوسطى بالجيش الأميركي في بيان: “كان العدني يتمتع بنفوذ كبير في تنظيم القاعدة في جزيرة العرب فضلاً عن علاقاته الوثيقة مع زعماء كبار آخرين في التنظيم”.

كذلك قُتل خمسة عناصر يُعتقد أنهم ينتمون لتنظيم القاعدة، في غارة جوية شنتها طائرة بدون طيار يُرجح أنها أميركية، في تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر الماضي، وفق ما أفاد شهود عيان في محافظة شبوة جنوب اليمن.

وقال مصدر محلي إن القتلى الذين تفحمت جثثهم، استُهدفوا في منطقة الحيدة جنوب غربي شبوة، مشيراً إلى أن المسلحين لا ينتمون إلى المنطقة.

كما تحدث المصدر عن حدوث انفجارات خفيفة داخل السيارة المستهدفة، ما يوحي بأنها كانت تحوي أسلحة وذخائر.
